There are many, many ways to make an Advent Calendar. This idea combines the Advent Calendar and Jesse Tree into one.
First make your calendar (or you could purchase one from a craft store...)
The one here is made from a 20in x 30in. piece of fabric. The pockets for each day are made from small squares of felt (the pockets on mine are 2.5in x 3in) and then the number is written on with glitter glue. You can use felt to create a picture or decorate your calendar however you would like and even sew on embellishments.
In each pocket I have used a small rectangular wood block (sold at most craft stores). On each block I have written a Scripture verse (corresponding with ornaments traditionally used on a Jesse Tree). Each day we pull out a block and read the verses together.
This year I would like to make small ornaments (using the symbols listed for each day's verses) to add to our calendar tree.
